Carrera DIGITAL 124/132 Driver Display

A subtle refueling strategy with a showy effect.

First things first: every vehicle should have its own driver display; otherwise,
you can’t make good use of its features.

Five green double LEDs and two red double LEDs aren’t just for show—they let you plan your pit stops early and execute them with precision. If you also start counting early, you might only need a quick “splash-and-go” to take the win. Just briefly press the switch button—if you see 1–2 green segments and it’s enough to make it to the finish line, you’ve done everything right!

With the Driver Display, you can track up to 10 pit stops, and this feature can certainly be incorporated into the race rules. To do this, you have to see how many laps you can drive without refueling, convert that to the race distance, and plan for 1–2 extra pit stops! And that means you also have to pay attention and think things through—it’s not just about being fast.

Test report by CoMod Carrera 124 on Carrera DIGITAL 124 the /132 Driver Display
(Item No. 30353)

The Driver Display features the following indicators:

the number of refueling stops made (up to 10)
the fuel level (displayed in 7 segments)
the vehicle’s position in

the raceControls, on the other hand, are hardly necessary; only a small pushbutton allows you to set the address of the corresponding vehicle on each Driver Display. This setting remains in effect even when the control unit is turned off.

Important: If you do not set the vehicles’ fuel tank capacity to the maximum level via the control unit, all segments on the driver display will always be lit at the start of the race. However, fuel consumption is higher! In other words, the gauge will approach the “reserve” level correspondingly faster.

If the fuel function is not used, the fuel gauge acts, in a sense, as a “tachometer,” d.h. displaying the current position of the throttle control.
However, a separate display is required for each vehicle. The integration of the display into the edge strip is visually very well done.

It is also not absolutely necessary to install the driver displays in the area of the control unit. The displays are large enough and bright enough that they can also be mounted very well on a back straight.
