Despite all the criticism…

The Daimler Group had a lot to contend with in 2012… declining sales figures in the automotive industry and, of course, within the company itself… as well as increasingly vocal criticism of the Group’s commitment to Formula 1 racing while simultaneously implementing cost-cutting measures in vehicle development and reducing production!
“How can you invest millions in motorsports at a time like this?”—this question was being raised more and more loudly by the workforce and the works council…

Above all, the lack of success in the F1 season didn’t exactly help bolster support for the company… and even multiple-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher was unable to achieve any real success alongside Nico Rosberg…
Schumacher’s contract was not renewed, and former World Champion Lewis Hamilton was signed!
In 2013, Mercedes got off to a much more promising start… but it was only enough for three wins, trailing a dominant Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing! Second place in the overall standings was pretty much overlooked… even though the trend was upward!

But this 2014 model turned the new season upside down… while the Hamilton-Rosberg duo split the wins between them… Sebastian trailed behind....and so Mercedes capped off an unchallenged 2014 season with the world championship title!

The Formula 1 world champions are always part of the vehicle lineup from Carrera… even though, due to space constraints, it’s very difficult to fit the technology into these delicate vehicles! Consequently, some compromises had to be made here, but they were handled very well. Even small air deflectors and spoilers are included, demonstrating a high level of attention to detail. Personally, I love the wonderful silver candy paint job on the Silver Arrows… a very elegant look that, to me, is one of the most beautiful paint jobs on the grid. It’s only overshadowed by the popularity of the red paint job on a Maranello racer… but those are “just” red… and race a bit further back ;-)
