A New Version of an Old Favorite
Carrera DIGITAL 132 Porsche 935/78 'DRM Norisring 1981' Item

No.: 30855

This model is not a new release in the strict sense. The Porsche 935-78 “Moby Dick” made its debut in Evolutionthe lineup 12 years ago —at a time when the digital system was still called “Pro-X” and the two systems were strictly separate in terms of both technology and content. Based on the analog chassis with the sliding magnet, a total of four design variants were released, including this striking dark red version from the 1981 Norisring race in 2007. In 2010, the Club model was released—surprisingly, with a newly designed chassis that was now compatible with digital technology. With this new chassis, two additional new designs were added to Digital 132 the lineup the following year, in 2011 . Since the positions of the screw studs in the body were not changed, in principle, it was quite easy to digitize the old versions yourself by Evolution simply mounting the body of a 2006 or 2007 model onto a digital chassis from the 2011 lineup. However, the models needed for this are no longer readily available, so this reissue makes sense. And, of course, it’s a historically accurate rival vehicle for the Ford Capri Zakspeed Turbo.
With a total weight of 98 grams, it moves along very quickly. However, the relatively short wheelbase requires a steady thumb in tight turns, as the model tends to suddenly lose traction here. The shielding of the front lights is very well done; no stray light escapes either to the sides or downward. All in all, a successful reissue—and a model that I personally would love to see in the larger 1:24 scale as well.
