Art.Nr. 23873" Once

again this year, a new version of the popular Porsche 917K is included in the large-scale model lineup. The Porsche is a perennial favorite and a favorite among racetrack and motorsports fans. No wonder—after all, this car is what truly established Porsche’s worldwide reputation. Until the 917 was introduced, Porsche was more of a follower among sports car manufacturers; motorsports in the 1960s were dominated by Ford and Ferrari and their high-displacement race cars. That all came to an end in 1970 after the first overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans—for a very long time. The Porsche 917K alone won 31 of the 68 races in which it competed. The other versions (908, 917LH, TC), etc., did the rest.
The white 917K standing here in front of me, with start number 11, is the Porsche 917K, chassis no.No. 23, driven by Dennis Hulme and Vic Elford, who finished second in the legendary 1970 rain-soaked race at Brands Hatch. First place went to the GULF Porsche from the John Wyer team. The car was entered as one of two by the Porsche Team Salzburg: in racing history, it is the lesser-known car compared to Chassis No. 20, the blue car with the white side stripes. Unfortunately, the simple white paint scheme—featuring only the entry number and a few sponsor logos—doesn’t make as much of an impression here as the sometimes brightly colored 917s from other teams in history.

This model is very well executed; the only thing is that the two dashes in the black-bordered start numbers are just a tad too short. We’re already familiar from other models with the fact that the DUNLOP advertising logos on the front fenders had to be replaced with the well-known DECENT DECADE logos.

All in all, a beautiful, simple model with its famously excellent handling that's a lot of fun on the track.
