the CARRERA racetrack—which has been around since 1963—experienced a revival in 1999 with the introduction of the 132 series EVOLUTION, and the redesign of the EXCLUSIV 124, there has been one car that has proven to be a consistent moneymaker throughout the entire period:
the PORSCHE 911.

And that goes for every version. I’m fairly certain that if CARRERA were to reissue the old EXCLUSIV 911 from the ’90s, it would still sell.
But those cars are history; we’ve now moved on to the modern-day 911 RSR. This year, another racing version of the legendary rear-engine race car is available in 1:124 scale (item number 23930) and in 1:132 scale (item number 31024): the Porsche of the Swabian racing team PROTON COMPETITION.

The car competed in the European Le Mans Series in 2019 in this configuration and with this paint scheme. PROTON fielded two Porsches: both in black and silver, one with the number 77 and blue accent stripes, the other with the number 88 and green accent stripes—the CARRERA model that CARRERA has newly added to its lineup this year. Incidentally, car number 77 races as the Dempsey-Proton Team, which is the racing team of American actor Patrick Dempsey.
A small detail about car number 88: In one race, the 4 Hours of Portugal, the car featured “CARRERA” lettering on the rear. Photos of the rear can be found on alamy.
PROTON RACING is based in Ummendorf, Baden-Württemberg. The founder is Gerold Ried, managing director of several freight forwarding companies, who launched the company in 1996 as “PROTON Competition Vehicle Rental.” Gerold Ried was an active race car driver himself from 1995 to 2007, driving Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 models.

PROTON specializes in the maintenance and rental of Porsche GT race cars for national and international racing series. In addition, the company operates as a racing team in international motorsports (currently in the “FIA World Endurance Championship” and the “European Le Mans Series”). The company is now run by the sons Christian and Michael Ried, with Michael serving as team principal and Christian competing as a driver.
