“An old favorite that hasn’t been seen on the new releases list in a long time.
Well, what great things can one write about the original Corvette that haven’t already been written? So I’ll just quote verbatim from the website of the crazy guys at badboy vettes:
It’s simple. Racing is central to Corvette. Without racing and all that it brings—competition, technology, and teamwork—the Corvette would have been just a footnote.
Racing is what transformed the fledgling Corvette into a true sports car. Racing continues to keep the Corvette from becoming the flabby boulevard cruiser so many sports cars become—or always were.
We don’t care about cup holders or heated seats. We care that Corvette Racing is out to beat the competition and win. Every time. We care that the DNA in every street Corvette out there is rooted in this philosophy.
How cool is it that, even against world-class competition like Astons and Ferraris and on tracks like Le Mans, the Corvette kicks major ass? It’s the ultimate sports car overachiever—and an inspiration for us all.
The Corvette is so much more than just racing. It’s always had that combination of incredible style and bad-boy swagger that other sports cars can only dream of.
And as for the model itself, there’s really only this much to say: Even 7 years after its release, the old lady can still hold her own on the track. It’s no coincidence that the car was and is a frequent and welcome sight in various racing series.
“v8racing –team”
Let anyone say the Dutch are traffic hazards. That may well be true for the more laid-back members of this friendly crowd, but it certainly doesn’t apply to the guys from v8racingteam. For years now, they’ve been anything but slow on the track. While they used to compete in the “National Dutch Supercar Challenge,” the team has been racing in the GT Open Championship since 2012—and with great success!
After winning the Super GT title in 2013, the team led by Rick Abresch fielded three Corvettes this year. The effort paid off, as the six drivers brought home the Super GT title in the team standings again in 2014.
The cars used were two Corvette C6R GT1s (Z06) and one C6R GT2 (ZR1).
You can find more information on the team’s website: http://www.v8racingteam.com/
The model from CARRERA is the C6R GT1. The car is available this year in both large and small scales, and both are beautifully crafted.
The “small” Corvette in 132 was added to the lineup back in 2006, at the time still as a Pro-X car. Even after all these years, the Vette still holds its own on the track. In full racing gear (i.e., with all magnets), it takes the corners very quickly. But you have to be careful—the margin for error is relatively narrow if you take the hairpin turns and curves (much) too fast. You have to really push it, though; normally, thanks to the wide rear axle and the low center of gravity of the body, the car is nearly impossible to throw off the track.
As I said: The Corvette is far from being past its prime!
