Review by CoMod Slotus of the Carrera DIGITAL 132 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, Team Black Falcon, VLN 2011, "No.2" and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, HEICO Motorsport, ADAC GT Masters 2011 (Item Nos. 30551/27381 and 30552/27382)
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the gull-wing SLS—you just have to read my review of the production model. But what I see right here on my desk right now, I like even better: the Mercedes-Benz luxury racer in its GT3 racing version!!!
That’s exactly what I’ve always wanted for the racetrack: a real race car. Nothing against supercars—they certainly belong in a slot car manufacturer’s lineup—but what we really want is a real race car in bright colors, with lots of cool sponsor decals and a race number. ;-) And the Black Falcon is exactly that kind of race car!
I’ll write about the team later; for now, here’s some info on the model:
The SLS’s performance is basically the same as that of the production car. Good off-the-line performance, good acceleration. Thanks to its long wheelbase and wide axles, it also handles corners very well. The silver-black-red color combination has become a Mercedes classic and looks really great on the track. The workmanship and printing are flawless; the Mercedes is a faithful replica of the real thing. You can find quite a few pictures of the Mercedes online. For those interested, the car represents the version that was raced in the opening race of the 2011 VLN season on the Nordschleife (incidentally, two of the three SLSs entered finished in 3rd and 4th place).
Here’s some information about the SCHWARZER FALKE team:
The company “Black Falcon GmbH & CoKG” from Kelberg is an international motorsports company that operates as an event service provider and sports marketing agency in the motorsports industry. The “Black Falcon” team fields its cars in the VLN Nürburgring Endurance Championship. “BF” is one of the so-called Mercedes-AMG customer racing teams that compete in the endurance championship with production-based SLS GT3s. And it has been highly successful in previous years: BLACK FALCON was the championship team in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and in 2010, it secured the overall VLN victory in the SLS AMG GT3. And in 2011, drivers Carsten Knechtges (Mayen), Manuel Metzger (Rickenbach-Hütten), and Tim Scheerbarth (Dormagen) once again claimed the championship title.
