Review by CoMod Lotus of the Carrera DIGITAL 132 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 "Young Driver, No.007"3 " (Item No. 30666).
The GT3 starting grid is getting bigger!
While the 1:132 scale class in the FIA GT3 racing series was already well-represented by the Porsche 911 and the Mercedes SLS AMG, another car is joining the starting grid this year: the Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3.
Until now, Aston Martin has used the well-known DBR9 as the base model in the GT3 series (we’re all familiar with these cars from the larger scale, after all). In 2012, the new Vantage was introduced for the first time. The Vantage is the “most compact” car in the British manufacturer’s lineup; for the GT3 series, it was equipped with Gaydon’s most powerful engine, the 6-liter V12 producing around 600 PS.
This CARRERA model is based on the 2012 car from the Fischer Racing motorsports team. The Paderborn-based team competes with the car in the Gran Turismo series. Active since 2010 under the name YOUNG DRIVER AMR, Fischer has been an official ASTON MARTIN Racing partner team since 2013. For more information, here’s the link to YOUNG DRIVER: www.youngdriver-amr.com. And here’s the Fischer Racing website: www.fischerracingteam.de
-Now let’s talk about the model itself. The car is really well-built. The decals are flawless—it doesn’t get any better than this right now. The motor runs very smoothly, and there’s nothing to complain about regarding the axles’ roundness either. Everyone will form their own opinion about the color scheme; I like it quite a bit, even though baby blue isn’t usually my color.
Handling: The car stays very stable on the track. I race with a magnet on a classic home track with lots of K1. The Aston can be maneuvered cleanly and quickly through the tight turns without immediately flying out of the slot. To be honest, though, I didn't expect anything less from that suspension. In terms of acceleration and balanced handling, it's every bit as good as an SLS or a 911—that's sure to make for some exciting showdowns in the future.
I'm looking forward to seeing more color options for this car!
