two rather unspectacular design variations of the Audi RS5 DTM were released on a large scale last year, this year is shaping up to be much more colorful.

First up is once again Rene Rast’s race car, whose design has switched from black to red. After winning the DTM title in 2017, he kept the 2018 championship race open until the very last race with this car and finished second in the overall standings.

We also have the car of Swiss driver Nico Müller in the green “Castrol” livery; he has been competing in the DTM for several years now. He has consistently posted very good individual results but has not played a significant role overall in recent championships. This year, however, he currently (after the race weekend in Assen) sits in second place overall, behind the aforementioned Rene Rast.
Together with the new designs for the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, which were also released recently, there are now 10 different DTM cars available on a large scale—all within less than two years.

When run without magnets, the Audis on my test track are always a tad smoother than the Mercedes, even though their weight and dimensions hardly differ. This can be used to somewhat compensate for driving advantages or disadvantages, so that balanced races are ultimately still possible.
