The 1976 6 Hours of Silverstone was a round of the World Sportscar Championship at the time. In addition to a factory BMW, several other teams also competed with the racing version of the E9 Coupé. The car that inspired this model was entered by Alpina; it finished in 4th place, narrowly missing a podium finish.
What makes both the real car and the model unique is the color scheme, which is a striking variation on the factory design. Today, one would probably call this “Dark Mode.”
Technically, nothing has changed compared to the first two design variants. Given the size of the vehicle, a total weight of 103 grams is still acceptable. The performance figures align well with those of the other Group 5 vehicles, allowing for a diverse starting grid.
