CARRERA has been offering trucks for a few years now, and the race trucks have been available since last year. The “Historic” model features the cab we’re already familiar with from the Wrecker, Tanker, and other models. The modern one is modeled after American or Scandinavian trucks.
The two current racing trucks look like this: the modern one has a deep black, glossy paint job adorned with gold lines. Decal: Jens Peter Spezl. The classic model is white with a handsome, multicolored racing stripe running the length of the vehicle: Martina Rehsing.
The puns speak for themselves.
Any true racing fan will, of course, immediately recognize the vehicles’ original design. For licensing reasons, we won’t mention the “real” names, of course. And that’s also why these vehicles are given such strange names. As recently as the 1950s and 1960s, both car manufacturers and racing team operators took pride in seeing their vehicles released as production models. After all, this meant significant publicity and a boost in prestige for the respective company. That has changed over the decades. At some point, the business managers at the respective companies came up with the idea of charging model car manufacturers for the use of their logos. Nowadays, no model car manufacturer can avoid paying licensing fees to the respective manufacturer for the use of even the simplest logos (even if it’s just a simple oil or tire manufacturer). The best-known example in recent years was the use of the “DECENT DECADE” lettering on the tires of CARRERA vehicles. That’s the case here as well: the other advertising logos on the vehicles (for example, for oil or electrical parts) were also designed with a similar look but with different text. That’s right! (??? See the front of the MARTINA.)
In that regard, I think both vehicles are superbly done:
the recognition factor is undeniable, and legal issues are kept out of the picture.
So have fun with these two cars, which look as great as ever on the track!
Best regards,
CoMod Lotus
