Carrera DIGITAL 124 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

2 great new design options!
Review by CoMod JoergW of the Carrera DIGITAL 124 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport (23729 and 23730)

1. Appearance:
Hooray, the Grand Sport’s pop-up headlights are open. At least that’s the case for the metallic red kit car, which stands out nicely as a new color on the starting grid. The paint job looks classy and is beautifully executed. Digital drivers in particular will likely appreciate the open headlights, as they make programming and other tasks much easier and allow for realistic night races.

The white-and-blue Sebring version also looks great, though I would have preferred a car with a different base color for better differentiation on the track. The decals on this car are true to the original and applied with great precision.

2. Technology:
Both models feature a very good front axle free-wheel mechanism. The transmission and rear axle run smoothly and quietly. The steering column could use a slightly larger turning radius; it’s quite stiff and practically snaps back to its starting position.

3. Workmanship:
The vehicles look as if they were cast from a single mold and show no irregularities in their workmanship. The fairly wide, high-grip tires need to be lightly sanded first, as they don’t sit flush against the edges.

4. Handling:
The Corvettes have a very good ratio of axle width to wheelbase; with magnets, they handle without any issues. Without magnets, driving them is significantly more challenging, but still doable. Compared to potential racing rivals from the exclusive 1:24 scale series, they are among the easiest to handle; nevertheless Carrera , I would prefer to use CoMod’s tuning tires on these vehicles.
