D&W Auto Sport accessories ... i can still remember the colorful D&W catalogs of the 80s. Not only hot models in bikinis, but also lots of tuning accessories for the inclined drivers of Golf, Kadett, Manta and the like.

The variant now presented in 1:24 scale by Carrera (black base color, with blue stripes and white applications or lettering) was originally driven by Klaus Niedzwiedz in the 1982 DRM in Group 5.

The 1:24 scale model makes a very neat impression. When researching pictures on the net, I found that many of the original pictures are compressed or stretched and do not reflect the proportions correctly.

The paintwork, lettering and decals are clean and clearly defined.
The body is made from one piece. The rear diffusers are part of the chassis. At approx. 229 grams (digital kitchen scales without calibration), the vehicle is no lightweight. The body accounts for 67 grams and the chassis with screws for 162 grams. As many drive the large scale without magnets and also remove one or two small parts, it is possible to reduce the weight somewhat, but it still remains a heavyweight on the track ... not only visually.

The front axle with the small wheels turns freely and runs for quite a long time even without after-treatment. The rear axle has relatively little play in the gearbox. However, the acceleration is still good and can compete with other vehicles in this weight class. Overall, the vehicle has quite controllable handling characteristics, length runs smoothly, even if the rear sometimes wants to go different ways.

The non-profiled tires are very soft (almost stuck to the bottom of the packaging in the heat) and have very good grip. With magnets, the vehicle feels like it is on rails, without them it can be moved safely and quickly around the course. The Capris, like its natural opponent BMW M1 - and perhaps a Porsche ?again in the future - need quite a lot of space on the track. There should be exciting races with paint transfer, I'm looking forward to my first real race with the two Group 5 cars.

Small addendum: Because of the discussion about changing the hood ... after dismantling it, I couldn't really see that it was glued in and possibly replaceable, and it didn't fly off ... but the hood has the number 127879 stamped on the inside ... whatever that may mean.

Until then
