The
The 1:24 model makes a very well-executed impression. While searching for images online, I noticed that many original photos are cropped or stretched, and the proportions are rendered more poorly than accurately.
The paintwork, lettering, and decals are clean and sharply defined.
The body is made from a single piece. The rear diffusers are part of the chassis. Weighing in at approximately 229 grams (according to an uncalibrated digital kitchen scale), the vehicle is no lightweight. The body accounts for 67 grams and the chassis with screws for 162 grams. Since many people run the large-scale model without magnets and remove one or two small parts, you can reduce the weight somewhat, but it’s still a heavyweight on the track… and not just visually.
The front axle with the small wheels turns freely and keeps spinning for quite a while even without any additional tuning. The rear axle has relatively little play in the transmission. However, acceleration is still good and can compete with other vehicles in this weight class. Overall, the car handles quite well; it runs straight, even if the rear end does tend to wander off course at times.
The smooth-tread tires are very soft (they were practically sticking to the bottom of the box in the heat) and offer excellent grip. With magnets, the car runs like it’s on rails; without them, it moves safely and swiftly around the track. The Capris, like its natural rival the BMW M1—and perhaps a Porsche again in the future?—need quite a bit of space on the track. There should be exciting races with paint transfer; I’m looking forward to my first real race with the two Group 5 cars.
A quick update:regarding the discussion about the removable hood... after taking it apart, I couldn’t really tell if it was glued in place and potentially interchangeable, and it didn’t fly off on me either... but the hood has the number 127879 stamped on the inside... whatever that may mean.
See you later
