The BMW M1 in the "Denim" design already appeared in the 1980/81 catalog, featuring the steerable Servo 140 system. Interestingly, however, the illustration in the catalog shows a retouched vehicle on a larger 1:32 scale, the whereabouts of which remain unknown to this day. The version that went on sale was the 1:40 scale model, which remains popular among Servo fans to this day. Fans of track-based racetracks had to repaint the model themselves, which is a relatively tricky task with this design. At least in the 1:32 scale, that’s no longer necessary—the model is now available as a new release in both analog and digital versions.
The original car was driven in 1980 by Hans Heyer, who also won the championship title in the German Racing Championship that same year in a Lancia Beta. His spectacular crash at the Norisring remains unforgettable—though
, fortunately, he emerged unscathed. Back to the model—the two-tone paint scheme and decals are flawlessly executed. Combined with the front and rear rims, which are different colors, this creates a very appealing look. The real-life car also comes in a version with the famous silver BBS rims, but I personally much prefer the choice made here.
As for handling, it’s business as usual—the model isn’t too heavy and drives quite briskly, though it does produce a relatively loud driving noise. Since this is now the eighth design variant in the smaller scale, nothing stands in the way of a Procar race.
