The Lola T70 was a big surprise in 2020 as a new model, serving as a thematic complement to cars like the Porsche 917, the Ferrari 512, and the Ford GT 40. And, of course, the model brings back memories of the history of Carrera . During the Neuhierl era, it was released as early as 1969, in both 1:24 and 1:32 scales. Unlike today, both versions featured a Lexan body.
Even for the 1:60 scale, a body mold was produced at the time—in 1977, the smallest Lola T70 from was released Carrera for the track-basedCarrera “160” system . A year later, the body was reused for the introduction of the steerable “Carrera Servo 160” system . There, the little Lola was not only available as a standalone vehicle but was also, at times, included in the larger, higher-end starter sets.

Back to the current model—in terms of design and technology, it corresponds to the design variants released so far. Visually, it leaves little to be desired, though some will surely miss the logos of the original tire manufacturers once again and thereforeCarrera criticize the “ ” printing on the tires.
In its stock configuration with a full set of magnets, the car reliably completes its laps but lacks any real edge. For magnet-free operation, you’ll—as usual—need to make a few tuning adjustments; in the simplest case, this involves swapping out the rear tires.

All in all, another successful design variation of this model—and at the end of the year, all Lola T70 fans will also get a bonus in the form of the Advent calendar kit.
