GenerationCarrera meets generation Go lf!
Introduced in 1976, theGo lf Gti with its 110 hp was the most powerful variant of the VW Go lf I introduced in 1974, which ultimately left its mark on an entire generation and lent its name to it. The GTi was the dream sports car for many young people in the 1970s, but only a few could afford it. Second-hand GTi and optically pimped-up normalGo lfs were the rule and formed a constant competitor to the significantly cheaper Opel Manta, Asona or Kadett C coupés. Carrera has now found a good introduction to the topic of the 70s with this model and, of course, the Opel Manta, which appeared at the same time. Carrera Kids from the 70s are now family fathers with a hobby room and alternatives have to be found before a train comes in. The detailed look is well done with effect paintwork, extreme tuning kit on the rear shelf and the hare. The Go lf was called Rabitt = hare in the USA at the time. Only the rear tires are visually a little too heavy, but this could be due to the handling. I consider the rather large gap in the rear wheel arch to be a small beauty flaw, which fortunately is not noticeable in the handling and will release sufficient tuning potential.
2. Technik
TheGo lf also has the new option of servicing the rear axle without dismantling the entire chassis. To remove the chassis, clip off the rear panel with the exhaust trims, then you can access the two rear screws of the body mountings. The turning angle of the guide keel is still good, deslotting in tight bends is rather the exception depending on the driving style.
3. Verarbeitung
TheGo lf makes a solid impression and has no manufacturing defects. The plastic and the workmanship can withstand the rough everyday life on the slot highways and are not easily damaged by a ride in the verges. The interior of the vehicle is quite cramped and when reassembling a dismantled body you have to be careful not to pinch any cables.
4. Fahrverhalten
At 100 g, the GTi has a surprisingly high weight for such a small car, which clearly surprised me when I first picked it up. The tires were striking for me, not so much the beautiful tread pattern as a completely new feel. The consistency of the tires promised grip, which was confirmed during the extensive driving tests. The very good grip of the tires makes the GTi much more controllable than comparable vehicles with other tires. The GTi has sprint and cornering qualities and can hardly be rattled. With 2 magnets, it is very suitable for beginners and children and can be adapted to the increasing demands of the driver by gradually removing the two magnets or the distances.
5. Sonstiges
Basically a brave and suitable choice of vehicle, let's see how it goes down and sells. Personally, I would still like to have a few tuned cars from the 70s ... just everything that I wasn't allowed to get as my first own car ;-) As the commercial said: Just say we driveGo lf. Sure, with pleasure.

Test report from CoMod Lotus on theGo lf GTi tuner

Lake Wörthersee in the slot...
in 1975, a car was presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt that was to become the epitome of an entire car class and made history: The VWGo lf GTI. Originally intended as a 5000 competition edition for motorsport, it has sold around 1.5 million units to date.
From the very beginning, the GTI was the object of tuners, both professional companies such as z.B. Öttinger as well as backyard workshops and normal home mechanics. The accessories industry supplied everything that made the car more beautiful, faster or even just more eye-catching. And at the latest since its time as a used car, everything that was possible was installed on the GTI. The 1 Series GTI was a typical product of its time: low, wide, hard, spoiler. :-)
At the annual meeting of the VW scene at Lake Wörthersee, you can still marvel at what has been made of the 1 Series. And now the most coveted object of our automotive youth is available as a slot car fromCarrera . And in the classic tuner version with large rims, fat tires and powerful spoilers.
Let's start: ThisGo lf also has the new chassis construction from Carrera with removable axle unit for servicing the rear axle. One screw loosened and the whole block is outside. The distance between the guide keel and the front axle is correct, the angle of rotation of the guide keel is ok, but could be a little less severe. The chassis is very stable and, above all, straight (the body screws at the rear are under the panel on the rear bumper). The body itself is very robust as usual from Carrera Removable mirrors are now standard, putting an end to the annoying search on the carpet.
The printing is very clean and precise, the paintwork is tiptop. Details such as z.Bthe GTI radiator grille or the nitrous oxide bottles in the rear of theGo lf are very nice. One of the things I like best are the two-piece rims with chrome bed. Looks are one thing, driving performance is another.
To put it bluntly: The little GTI lives up to its big role model. The car drives like it's on rails thanks to the strong magnets. A car that is absolutely suitable for children's rooms and that the little ones will have lots of fun with. The advanced driver can test his personal limits by removing the center and rear magnets and the spacers, but the car always remains controllable on the whole. It has very good acceleration and the visually attractive tires with the replica V-tread have very good grip. The 100-gram body is not the lightest for a car of this size, but the car also sits well in the slot, there is no difference in driving technique between the digital model and the analog model, I tested both models.
Conclusion: I think theGo lf is great and I'm already looking forward to more models. And, of course, its direct competitor, the Manta. If Carrera were now to bring out the wide Ford Capri RS or the Ford Escort BDA, the disco troika of the 80s would be perfect!
