Item No. 30822

Another vice!

We don't usually write reviews about limited editions.
In the case of this car, however, we're making an exception. The reason: the car with item number 30822 is a new model, brand new to the market, and thus the first car of its kind that Carrera has ever included in its product range.

We're talking about the 132-scale tanker. I already discussed the tow truck recently. The cab is the same as the Wrecker, and the vehicle's appearance matches that of the tow truck in terms of its red color scheme and the styling of the body and body. The tanker body slopes downwards at the rear, giving the oil truck a streamlined appearance; Raymond Loewy would have been proud of Slottus. A nice little detail in the print is the pin-up girl on the rear of the body.
In terms of technology, it doesn't have quite as much to offer as the Wrecker: There's no light bar, but this vehicle also has a sound module integrated (which, incidentally, makes different noises than the tow truck). The vehicle weighs 150 grams, which is 2 grams lighter than its older brother. So, in a direct comparison, it should be able to keep up.

These two new models aren't for everyone, at least if you read the opinions and discussions in the club or on Freeslotter. For those who like the car, I can definitely recommend the Tanker. The cars are a real asset to the track.

The design of the Ferrari 488 GT3 from Black Bull Swiss Racing is very well chosen.
The basic silver and black elements are underlined by the orange line on the sides and the white bull emblems on the front hood and the side panels, and for me they create a very harmonious racing car design.

This model has been successfully used in the Italian GT Championship, among other events. Black Bull achieved victories in the Super GT3 Pro class at Monza, Imola, Valelunga, and Mugello with driver Stefano GAI, who finished third in the 2017 Drivers' Championship.
The model itself is flawlessly crafted. Nothing jams, drags, or sits crooked... as has been the case lately. The Ferrari is certainly competitive, a potential winner... depending on the driver at the controls ;-)

A never-ending story…

Infinite? Well, not quite. But I can't actually remember a vehicle in recent years that took so long to actually reach the market. Announced for early 2017, it's now taken almost a year for the tow truck to actually hit the market. As Slottus once wrote in the relevant thread about the vehicle: "The whole project is once again a prime example of Murphy's Law." Technical issues with the LGA, etc., have delayed the project for quite some time.

However, the result makes up for everything:
I know this sounds strange, but the little truck makes a very "friendly" impression. If you look at the cab of the tow truck, its "face" immediately seems familiar. Somehow, the vehicle reminds you of a cross between a Mercedes 319 and classic American Cab Over Wreckers from the 1950s. Which, given the designer's well-known preference for American vehicles, was probably the point. The paint job is classic CARRERA red, and the rear end is completely chrome-plated except for the red crane boom. There's even a jerrycan mounted on the loading area (a German canister, not an American!). This leaves all possibilities open for further designs. The rims are from a '67 Mustang, with dual tires on both rear axles. The windows of the driver's cab are necessarily smoke-black due to the electronics installed inside. There's a yellow flashing light on the roof, as befits a tow truck. And it makes noises too: The vehicle's sound can be played by pressing the switch button on the hand controller, both when the train is stationary and when it is running.
For towing: There's a bracket at the rear of the flatbed that holds the guide keel for the front wheels of the towed car when folded down. All without springs or servos. When folded out, you can, of course, also drive without the towed car. For Formula 1 cars with a long nose, a second bracket is included, which clips onto the existing bracket. See the operating instructions in the box for details.
The real surprise about the truck, however, is something none of us CoMods expected. The truck is really fast. It drifts well, and in terms of acceleration and speed, it's faster than many race cars (and if you're thinking about Fly's old race trucks and their handling, you can't compare race boats to battlecruisers, either).
A small detail: the truck fits into a regular box. It's a little tight, but it fits. The box comes with a cardboard slipcase, like the one we already know from the Ferraris, only in gray.
Alright, enough of that. Buy the car and try it out for yourself on your track. You won't regret it!

In the last club report on the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, I predicted that the car would next be available in black. You could be wrong: The paint job on the newest Porsche in the 2017 lineup is metallic blue. This blue is also available on the original car, so that's true and won't offend the purist's eye. The racing stripes, on the other hand, are due to the designer's artistic license. Personally, I like racing stripes on production cars, even if plenty of people find them juvenile, if not embarrassing. That's probably due to my age (47); the 80s were the era of racing stripes, spoilers, stickers, and other tuning excesses... They suit the 911, or rather the body, well.
At the time, I also wrote: "Personally, I would like to have a female driver for the car someday." Unfortunately, that wish didn't come true. We have a male driver again, wearing a white shirt and a red polo. In reality, he probably looks like 70% of the owners.
All in all, the car is well-made; the sporty paint job makes it stand out from other Porsche convertibles, which are painted in a single color. The car's handling is notoriously good; even the old 911 GT3 RSR, despite its age, is still one of the best cars in the small professional class.

Following the Würth version, the second design variant of the “Liqui Moly Equipe” is now being delivered, colloquially also often referred to as “Nigrin-Capri”.
The original model was driven by Manfred Winkelhock in the 1981 season of the German Racing Championship (DRM). The car's front spoiler typically featured a large "Nigrin" logo; two competitors have already produced corresponding slot models in this format.
However, for the race at the Norisring, the design was modified – the classic Carrera logo is clearly visible on the front spoiler, the roof, and the rear quarter panels. Fürth and Nuremberg were still Carrera territory at the time, and so the company management at the time decided on this unique sponsorship of the "home race." A pleasant side effect: large-format images of the original car were also used for promotional purposes in the 1981/82 main catalog. Thirty-five years later, the circle has come full circle.
Technically, the model is, of course, identical to the first version, but this time the tires have noticeably more grip. While the Würth version with partial magnetization was a real rear-end slingshot, this model with the same setup is now much more comfortable and easier to drive.

Technical data:
Weight (complete vehicle with magnets): 104 grams
Weight (body): 35 grams
Length including spoiler: 160 mm
Wheelbase: 79 mm
Track width (front axle): 56 mm
Track width (rear axle): 60.5 mm
Other: Independent front suspension

The vehicle:
Practically everything has already been written about it. This model has been a fixture in the Carrera range since the late 1970s. Whether it was the 132 Universal, the 160 track-bound, or one of the three Servo systems, the Ford Capri Zakspeed Turbo was always there, but at the time it was mostly in the stylized Mampe design, as well as a red fantasy version for the Servo 140 and Servo 160.
Competitors have also launched various versions of the model since 2002 and 2012, respectively. However, these aren't always easy to digitize, so I think this new Carrera release makes perfect sense. The popularity of this Group 5 icon remains unbroken, with the "Würth" version being the first to be launched.

The model (chassis):
All familiar elements were used in the chassis design. The E200 engine sits, as usual, as an inline unit in front of the rear axle. Unfortunately, the front axle could not be designed as a continuous suspension, but instead features independent suspension. The lighting is provided by SMD LEDs.

The model (body):
I was unsure about this at first. The leading edge of the front spoiler is perfectly straight, and the front wheels are positioned relatively far forward in the wheel arches. In these two respects, the Carrera model clearly differs from the slot models of the other two manufacturers. However, when comparing it with real-world photos, you can see that the front wheels are indeed positioned that far forward, and that the front spoiler is actually as straight as a snow shovel, so our designer did everything right there.

Driving test:
There's not much to say about the handling with the full magnet configuration; the model circles the track as if it were nailed to the racing line. However, if you remove the rear magnet, the Capri quickly mutates into a tailspin, something I've rarely seen with this level of intensity in other vehicles with this magnet configuration. Perhaps it's the tires, but I'll definitely wait until the second design variant is released to make a final judgment.
Apart from this rear-heavy nature, the driving behavior is smooth and only moderately noisy.

I won't say anything more about the discrepancies between the now-ancient model and the real car; the issue is well known. Everyone has to decide for themselves how disturbing the differences are and how much they influence their purchase decision. I really like the design despite the outdated body shape; it looks harmonious and attractive.

Driving test:
I really can't add anything new here—the model drives just as the previously released color variants have for almost 10 years. The model's performance is, of course, somewhat handicapped due to the old G1 chassis. But that probably won't bother fans of this model.

The vehicle:
Carrera has a luxury problem: the BMW M1 in two scales. How do you sensibly distribute the approximately 100 possible original designs between 1:32 and 1:24? Compared to that, squaring the circle seems almost trivial.
In addition to the model's attractive shape, the "Boss" design is a real feast for the eyes. Many people—myself included—will want this look for a larger scale version as well.

The model (chassis):
Only familiar and proven technology is used here. Fortunately, the front axle is continuous, and the lighting also operates with minimal stray light.

The model (body):
In the 1:32 scale, some compromises always have to be made, but the model, like its big brother, is still impressive from every perspective. Whether the rear louvers are as prone to breakage as the old Universal 132 model remains to be seen.

Driving test:
There's nothing to say about the handling with the full magnet load; without the limit, it zips around the track at top speed. However, the little M1 becomes a true racer when you remove the rear magnet. It's still fast, but always neutral and well-controlled through the corners. The limit is wide and announces itself well in advance. The rather loud and droning driving noise is a negative, however.

For 17 seasons, from 2000 to 2016, Timo Scheider competed in the DTM, driving Audi cars throughout. He even won the championship in 2008 and 2009. This makes him one of the more prominent victims of the cost-cutting measures for the 2017 season, namely the reduction to a total of six cars per manufacturer. The Carrera model allows us to relive his farewell season on a smaller scale.
Visually, the Digital 132 model is rather unassuming—mostly matte black, with a few shades of gray and white spots. However, there's little danger of confusion with previously released models, so the choice of prototype is once again sensible and understandable.

Under the sign of the rings…

This time, there are two new models from the D1:32 range. The two new Audi R8 LMS in green and blue are visually impressive and are easily visible and distinguishable on the track.
The "blue Audi" has a large FELBERMAYER logo emblazoned on the side... Tell us something... yes, the expensive, light blue Porsche 911 from the first 124 Porsche 911 series, but who or what is Felbermayer, and what does the "Car Collection" logo/model name refer to... only for hardcore Carrera collectors?

The Austrians Horst Sr. and Horst Jr. Felbermayer are active in international racing, both as sponsors (Felbermayer Holding, an international construction and transport company), and as active drivers.

Car dealer Peter Schmidt initially owned the company "Schmidt Automobile," which was later restructured into "CC Car Collection Autohandels GmbH." This led to his involvement in racing in the VLN Endurance Championship, Black Pain Endurances, and International 24-hour Series.
"CarCollection" competes in races itself, but also offers support and service for customer teams... a Felbermayer GT3 Audi R8 LMS can be purchased here for just under 375,000 euros.

Yaco-Racing has been in existence for 16 years and has entered vehicles in more than 400 races. In 2001, Uwe Geipel, former East German Rally Champion and Wartburg factory driver, founded the family racing team YACO. Successful members of the YACO-Racing team include his sons Philip and Charlie, as well as well-known names such as Markus Winkelhock and Christian Mamerow in recent years.
Philip Geipel and former DTM driver Rahel Frey drive the current Audi R8 in the GT3 series.

The vehicle models feature flawless printing and fit. While the somewhat heavy weight is noticeable in the performance, the vehicles are light and safe to drive.
There's relatively little room in the chassis for trim weights. The axles rotate slightly, but a drop of oil still won't hurt.
All in all, two visually appealing and competitive vehicles for the 1:32 GT series.

An American legend…

The '57 Chevrolet Bel Air is one of the vehicles that has been part of the CARRERA lineup for 10 years. Ten years ago, CoMod colleague Jörg wrote the following about the first Bel Airs: "Whether these vehicles will appeal to a sufficient number of buyers in Europe, I can't say; in the USA, they will certainly have their fans and thus corresponding sales." This has proven to be true: Although the car has not been part of the German and European lineup for years, the Chevy continues to enjoy unbroken popularity in the USA. For years, CARRERA has regularly released another racing version of the 2-door sedan. The "civilian version" of the Bel Air was only available in 2008 (in red) and 2009 (in sky blue, only for the USA); all other versions were and are race cars. Original racing Chevys from that era now fetch quite respectable prices at auctions in the USA. The newest Chevy, with the item number 30795, is a racing version in turquoise and white with the starting number 90. According to information from our designer Günter "Slottus" Leifer, the car is based on a real-life prototype. Regarding handling: The car impresses with its sheer size; there are 1:24s that are only slightly larger. The car's dimensions are also reflected in its weight; the Bel Air weighs 119 grams. This is also noticeable when driving: The car sits firmly and surprisingly well on the track, and there is no tendency to roll over in corners due to the weight and higher center of gravity. Thus, the Chevy's size and weight bring it close to the handling of the 1:24 scale models. The car isn't a "burner" on the track, but it can easily keep up with the other (also quite large and heavy) American cars of the era. For those interested, the Chevy is readily available via eBay USA or direct import from local dealers. There's also been a German dealer for years who reimports the US versions and offers them here.

So why not women, they are already severely underrepresented in our beloved hobby. But I'm probably too sober for attributes like "oh, it's so cute." The only positive thing I can say is the bodywork with the almost transparent rear section; I think that's a really great solution.
So I'll spare myself any further comments and simply state that this version of a racing ladybug could appeal to new target groups.
Thankfully, there's also the car with item number 30820 this year: a Beetle in a classic racing livery that's clearly reminiscent of the old Lotus cars from the 1970s. Black, gold letters and numbers. Since you unfortunately have to pay licensing fees for everything these days, and cigarette advertising on toys isn't allowed, Carrera opted for the letter combination BUG instead of the classic cigarette brand: BEETLE UNION GERMANY. And the car is truly a perfect match. The CARRERA lettering on the rear spoiler and the red front lap harmonize perfectly with the rest of the body, creating a perfectly harmonious overall image.
The Beetles' excellent driving characteristics are well known, so I don't think I need to say anything more about that.
One more thing: While I was writing this review, my two boys (6 and 8 years old) stormed into the room. When asked for their opinion on which of the two they liked better, the verdict was clear: the LADYBUGRACER!
I'm going to cry now...

An American legend…

One of Walter Röhrl's most legendary races was his 1987 victory at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC), the Race to the Clouds in the Rocky Mountains. Less well known is that the American Bobby Unser also won Pikes Peak the previous year, driving an Audi Sport Quattro. He set a new track record of 11:09 minutes, which was then shattered the following year by Röhrl with a time of 10:47 minutes. The current record stands at 9:46 minutes.
But who is Bobby Unser?
Relatively little known here, Robert William, now 83, is an American racing legend. He is one of only 10 drivers to have won the Indianapolis 500 at least three times and one of two drivers to have won the Indy 500 in three different decades. He has successfully left Pikes Peak as the winner 13 times, more than anyone else. This earned him the nickname "King of the Mountain." His brothers race (successfully), his son races (Pikes Peak: won nine times), and his nephews race. The UNSER family has the proverbial gasoline in its veins.
The "new" '69 Torino from CARRERA is the car with which UNSER won Pikes Peak in 1969. The car was built by FORD specifically for the hillclimb and subsequently went directly to the Pikes Peak Museum, meaning it never raced again.
Here is an interview with Bobby about the race and the car:

'...you can see how time flies by looking at children...' - who doesn't know this saying? It's also true of Carrera cars when you put the 5th, 6th, or 7th color version of a model on the shelf.

For the D124 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, it is now even the 11th – if you add the Lechner/Carrera racing taxi, the dozen is complete.

This version depicts the Felbermayr-Proton team's car in the livery of the 2013 ELMS race at the Hungaroring. Drivers Ried, Bachler, and Tandy won the three-hour race. The team finished runner-up in the 2013 European Le Mans Series.

Everything has already been said about the outstanding driving characteristics of what is arguably the lightest D124 Carrera model among modern GT cars. This test vehicle is from regular production and exhibits no technical or cosmetic defects.

The Haribo Racing Team's design was already extremely popular with the Porsche 911 GT3. Consequently, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 now also features the Haribo Racing Team's livery. Visually, the car leaves nothing to be desired, with a jet-black paint job and the famous Gold Bear logo.
Technically, everything remained the same, and the car offers a lot of driving fun. It doesn't matter whether you prefer full or half magnets; the model impresses in both configurations.

Surprisingly emerged from obscurity

For me, this vehicle was a surprising new addition this year. In 2010 and 2011, the road version of the Mercedes SLS was released in only three colors (red, white, dark gray), as well as two different versions as a pace car. The first version was only available in a special package for Idee&Spiel, while the second, with a visibly modified appearance, was also available as a standalone model.
After a break of several years, the model has now been given a police look and is back on the track. As is typical with such Carrera models, the windows are opaque and the driver's insert has been omitted. Not quite as aesthetically pleasing, but good for performance: Thanks to the weight savings, the Mercedes weighs just 95 grams and can be driven accordingly quickly and reliably. The lights and indicators can be switched on or off sequentially in every conceivable configuration. This brings us to the only criticism: the taillights glow comparatively dimly, while the separately illuminated "Police" lettering on the rear is all the brighter. This probably won't bother the target audience much.

This model is a true long-runner and has been in the range in its familiar form since 2008. The silver version is the ninth design variant overall and, in my opinion, the most harmonious. The color doesn't have a greasy sheen, but rather a pleasant satin finish, and the black hood and, above all, the rims provide a pleasant contrast.
There was a surprise during the road test, as I'm not a fan of this first generation of digital chassis. Without the rear magnet, I took to the test track, and the Ford Mustang circled the track wonderfully smoothly and without any treacherous effects. This made it clearly better than any other vehicle of this type I've ever driven. The tires play a significant role in this; their grip definitely varies on the high side on the test model, which hopefully also applies to the entire production batch.

Cars

Carrera has had the licenses for the CARS movies for a few years now. In addition to the well-known basic sets in the small GO!!! scale, the cars are also available for the larger 132 scale.
The first two came out a few years ago, featuring the ever-popular hero Lightning McQueen, of course. His rival on the racetrack was the Italian Francesco Bernoulli, sporting a Formula 1 look, and the German Max Schnell, who was based on a DTM racer. At the beginning of this year, the Neon version of the likeable race car hit the market, also featuring the car from the second film.

With PIXAR film studios releasing their third feature film about the impetuous NASCAR race car this year, CARRERA has once again decided to release two 132s. This time, the cars are (unsurprisingly) our title character, Lightning McQueen, and the second car is the yellow NASCAR racer of young technician Cruz Ramirez, who is tasked with training our aging hero and teaching him the latest tricks of the racing world, as he's finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with the young, impetuous up-and-coming drivers. He still hasn't won the Piston Cup.
For the first time, we have two cars in 132 that can compete directly against each other. Both have the same chassis, the same suspension dimensions, and similar bodies, so the performance figures are roughly comparable. While the cars don't fit the usual racing car mold, they can certainly keep up with other cars from other racing series. Wide tires, the relatively short wheelbase, and a very wide chassis ensure acceptable performance. But what's even more important for the target audience: thanks to the body construction using few add-on parts, the cars are virtually indestructible in children's hands! And son can finally keep up with his dad's beloved DTM cars...

BMW M1 … in factory design

No, not just the small version of the well-known 1:24 livery, but a “slightly” different car, because at least the details and the driver are different.
Mario Andretti actually drove the Lotus 79 (yes, that's right... the black John Player Lotus) in Formula 1 during the '79 season. For him, it was a dramatic but also extremely successful season, which he crowned with the world championship title.
Unthinkable today, back then the five fastest Formula 1 drivers from each Friday's practice session competed in BMW M1 races as part of the supporting program. They competed against 19 private and sports car drivers, also driving BMW M1s... that was the Procar Series. Nikki Lauda won the 1979 series, and Mario Andretti is not listed in the 1979 Procar Championship standings.
Other Formula 1 celebrities, such as Nelson Piquet, Jacques Lafitte and Clay Regazzoni, have also appeared on the track in the Martini colors of the factory BMW.
In my personal opinion, the 1:32 model is very well implemented proportionally.
The front and rear lights, as well as the brake lights, are well executed and illuminate quite realistically. The printing and decals are flawless, clean, and detailed.
The axles run smoothly and quietly, as does the transmission/engine.
There's very little room for trim weights in the chassis. The deep-drawn tail section is split into two parts, one of which is glued to the chassis.
On the track, the M1 is a real joy; it handles quickly and safely. The wheels are quite small, and the tires have very little material for grinding... but in my opinion, that's not really necessary.
We can look forward to the next versions and then drive 1:32 Procar races.

Until then

One a day

Producing one GT a day—that's Ford's goal! Only 1,000 will be built, but the car won't be manufactured directly by Ford, but rather at the new Multimatic assembly facility in Markham, Ontario. Multimatic is a privately held, global company that supplies engineered components, systems, and services to the automotive industry. Ford officially launched the new GT in 2016, 50 years after the legendary GT40 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It also entered the car at Le Mans that year, where it won its class. Given the Ford's impressive performance figures, it's no wonder. The GT is powered by a brand-new 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine producing 656 hp and 746 Nm of torque. Thanks to its lightweight carbon fiber construction, the car has one of the best power-to-weight ratios in any car. Body: Carbon fiber monocoque with a bolted aluminum frame at the front and rear, the body panels made of carbon fiber. Dihedral doors (like those found on the Koenigsegg, for example), active aerodynamics, a windshield made of Gorilla Glass for weight reasons (also used in smartphones, for example), pushrod suspensions, meaning the chassis technology is directly derived from Formula racing. It doesn't get more race-car-like than this. No wonder the Ford boasts such impressive figures: 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, a top speed of 347 km/h, and fuel consumption of just 9.7 liters per 100 km. CARRERA has been producing the GT in both large and small scale versions since this year. Unfortunately, there are currently hardly any real-life prototypes available for release as models. The orange and white car with the item number 30786 therefore has no real-life prototype, but the paintwork is a true representation of the style. The bright paint scheme is a pleasant departure from the currently prevalent monotony of black, silver, red, and blue in racing, making it a great choice for the track. The GT's handling is beyond question; the car impresses with its directional stability and good acceleration. All in all, a real asset to the lineup.

While the Ferrari 575 GTC was predominantly a red monotony, this has fortunately changed with the Ferrari 458 GT3. A colorful variety is on the agenda, and this time the choice fell on the black and green AF Corse race car from the 2016 Blancpain Endurance Series.
The model is just as wide and flat as the original vehicle. And the large scale allows for the depiction of numerous details. The headlights and taillights, as well as the imitation engine, are particularly well-executed. Even after three years in the product range, the body leaves nothing to be desired, and technically, everything remains the same. Unfortunately, this also means that a lot of weight needs to be moved. Depending on the selected magnet configuration, the model weighs between 230 and 240 grams – lightweight doesn't come with a single thing. This is also noticeable when driving: on the one hand, the weight provides a solid and stable roadholding, but on the other, the car doesn't accelerate and brake as nimbly as lighter D124 vehicles.
Nevertheless, the model represents another useful addition to the GT3 starting field in 1:24 scale.

Team CASTROL Denmark

This year, CARRERA is once again presenting us with one of the popular BMW M1s in another classic livery: the 1984 M1 of the Danish team CASTROL DENMARK. CASTROL is one of the oldest lubricant manufacturers in the world, founded in 1899 by Briton Charles C. Wakefield. The oil company has been a sponsor of Formula 1 since 1950, but its involvement in motorsports began even earlier, in 1905, as Mr. Wakefield recognized even then that racing success generates revenue. Among other things, CASTROL sponsored Danish racing driver Jens Winther, who established his own TEAM CASTROL DENMARK from 1984 to 1986. In 1983 the Dane, born in 1938 on the Baltic island of Zealand, was still driving a BMW M1 in the legendary golden WARSTEINER design (also a car that we would love to see on the racetrack! (hint!!!)) . In 1984 he founded his own team and in the following years competed in various races at Spa, Brands Hatch, Mugello, Hockenheim, Kyalami, Silverstone, the Nürburgring and also LeMans. Unfortunately, he retired from LeMans in 1984 with this BMW due to damage to the left front wheel suspension. His best result at LeMans was eleventh place overall in 1986 and second place in Group C2 (Group Junior) with a CRD racing car. He then ended his racing activities at the peak of his career.

Now it's available in 1:24 scale, the blue, white, and red Ford GT. I've already commented on the real car in my 1:32 review, and I don't want to bore you with a repeat here. Visually, the 1:24 model is truly impressive. The limited space in the wheel arches, the slightly raised front lip, and the rear diffuser, combined with the body and paintwork, give the car a sleek, aggressively sporty line. The proportions of the original vehicle seem to have been well maintained.
The incorrect German flag next to the driver's name (black-yellow-red instead of black-red-yellow)... hmm, I've clicked through countless original photos... with starting number 66 you can see the German flag in the correct color sequence... the photos of number 68 unfortunately don't provide anything conclusive... no drama, more of a side note.
Unfortunately, the model car is quite heavy, weighing approximately 253 grams. Its rather smooth and uncomplicated handling characteristics, due to its length and wheelbase, are difficult to translate into fast laps, especially on small tracks. Larger tracks with long curve combinations should benefit, as the Ford handles well in the corners... only the changes and acceleration on the straights... a bit of fine-tuning could help.
In the field of previous GT vehicles from the Carrera 124 range, the Ford GT will rarely make it onto the podium... although it would more than deserve it purely from an aesthetic point of view.

Black Beauty

… if you think of a black horse, you’re not far off.
However, this is not about the schmaltzy TV series from the 70s, but about the latest version of a 1:32 classic from Carrera.

The latest Ford Mustang GT features a new shape adapted to the 1967 model year. The side air intakes, the grille, the Mustang emblem, the rear end, the lighting, and other details have been modified accordingly; it is a "new model."

The glossy black paint, the two bright red vertical stripes, and the white starting numbers give the car a contemporary look; make it look good and be recognizable on the track.
The driver's seat and sponsor decals are designed in keeping with the 1960s. The headlights are a bit garish (for a 1960s car) and also shine downwards from the body in front of the front tires. The tail/brake lights are great and will certainly be easily visible even on longer tracks.

The basic design, with a fairly narrow rudder angle, a fairly high weight, and the wedge-shaped underbody construction—which, depending on the viewing angle, somewhat detracts from the otherwise great looks of the vehicle—is virtually unchanged and makes the vehicle a diva when moving at racing speed... fun to drive, but quite tricky.

The blue and white Audi from FITZGERALD RACING is now the tenth R8 LMS that CARRERA has brought to the racetrack in 1:24 scale. A quick look at the 10 race cars in the vehicle database will immediately catch your eye with the variety of colors. Or, as the saying goes: A balanced starting field...

The Australian racing team's new R8 is no exception. In my opinion, it's one of the three most beautiful Audis, alongside the BILSTEIN and the RED BULL.
http://www.fitz-racing.com.au/

Fitzgerald is an Australian racing team founded in 1994 by Peter Fitzgerald. Peter has been racing with Porsche since 1979 and is one of Australia's most successful drivers. He founded his racing team at the suggestion of the then chairman of PORSCHE AUSTRALIA. The company competes successfully in various racing series and specializes in tuning Porsches, from standard sports cars to GT3 Cups. With its offshoot EVOLVE-Technik, the company earns money by tuning all types of production vehicles—hence the EVOLVE logo on the side of the Audi.
http://www.evolve-technik.com.au/

Another striking feature of the Audi R8 is the very large LIQUI MOLY sponsor sticker on the windshield. And if you google BATHURST, the 12-hour race in which the Audi competed in this livery, you'll also come across LIQUI MOLY. The company is also the current sponsor of the legendary race:
http://www.bathurst12hour.com.au/

LIQUI MOLY, the oil and additive manufacturer from Ulm, Swabia, has become widely known in Germany, primarily through its managing director and owner, Ernst Probst. The company has long been involved in motorsports (in Germany, for example, it is the main sponsor of the ENGSTLER racing team in the WTCC), but also supports grassroots sports.
FITZGERALD RACING has been part of the LIQUI MOLY family since 2015. A very insightful interview with Peter Fitzgerald on the subject can be found at the following link:

After a long time, a purebred GT from traditional manufacturer Ford, 50 years after the legendary Ford GT40, Ford wants to play again and takes the class victory in the GTE Pro classification at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
While the "civilian" version will be sold to buyers or successful applicants between 2016 and 2020 with 250 units annually featuring a 3.5-liter engine and approximately 480 kW (approx. 650 hp) for a price of approximately 500,000 euros, the racing version will be used by the Chip Ganassi Racing UK team in the FIA GT Endurance Championship.

This 1:32 model from Carrera shows the variant used in the FIA GT Series. It can be simply ordered from your Carrera dealer without a 24-page application process or picked up directly on site.
This version appears to be very faithful to the original in terms of its overall appearance, printing, and decals. Only the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting number, which is only hinted at, presumably due to licensing costs—we've already discussed that—will catch the eye of the discerning observer. I can live with that.
The chassis is tidy, the axles rotate freely, and have the necessary lateral tolerance. The vehicle is equipped with the D132 standard lighting—front and rear/brake lights.
The rear diffuser, which appears very protruding in the original photos, is integrated into the chassis and slightly toned down in the model, but it visually fits the overall vehicle better than it does in the photos of the original. It serves no function in the model other than as a bull bar.
The relatively narrow and long GT still has room in the chassis for trim weights, which should further improve its handling without magnets. Length matters, as can be confirmed with this model – similar to the 1:32 Maserati MC12 – although I personally prefer a compact and wide car ;-)

All in all, the Ford GT is a great addition to the GT car pool and I'm looking forward to the upcoming 1:24 version.

Whether you like the look is up to you. The design definitely stands out from the crowd of GT3 cars, not least because of the unusual white rims.
In terms of handling, there's nothing to complain about. Regardless of the magnet configuration used, the car runs quietly and smoothly. The handling is a good compromise between "gentle" and "fast."

Test report on the Carrera DIGITAL 132 Porsche 918 Spyder GULF Racing
Item No.: 20030788

If you still want a Porsche 918 Spyder, you are definitely too late:
918 of the 887-hp racing cars were produced, and the number never exceeded that. Production ended in 2015. The car was also available in various retro designs (e.g., MARTINI, which we also know from the racetrack). The most exclusive versions, however, are probably the cars with the GULF livery, of which only two were produced.
The initiator of the two vehicles was Canadian Vaughn Wyant, President of the Wyant Group, which also owns the Porsche Center in Saskatoon, Canada. https://porschecentresaskatchewan.com/
Since Porsche was no longer contractually affiliated with the GULF Oil Company and therefore no longer had the rights to use the original blue and orange color scheme, Mr. Wyant asked GULF Canada if he could paint two vehicles in the GULF colors. After lengthy negotiations, GULF agreed, and Porsche also gave its approval. The decision may have been influenced by the promotional effect of the vehicles, as the GULF brand was only reintroduced in Canada in 2015 after a 30-year absence.
After receiving official approval "from above," Mr. Wyant commissioned a team of designers to create the paint schemes for both Porsches, modeled on the old Porsche 917K Gulf, in a way that was absolutely "true to the era": analyzing the paint scheme based on old original photos, ensuring the correct fit and width of the center stripes, etc., all with the support of Porsche AG. The two vehicles differ only in minor details; for example, No. 1 has blue piping on the seats, while the second has orange stitching.
Although a few other 918 owners have also repainted their vehicles in GULF livery and applied decals, these two Porsches are the only “Gulf Livery Period Correct” cars that were officially manufactured with factory approval from PORSCHE and GULF.

In November 2016, the collector scene was somewhat stirred by the sudden appearance of an Evolution base set "Hightech Race BWT vs. Euronics" on various sales portals. It contained two Mercedes C-Coupe AMG DTM models, one of the familiar blue and yellow models by Gary Paffett, and a previously unknown pink model.

Fake? Special Edition? Neither of the two, but simply an early 2017 release that made its debut in this special set. And as already discussed in the forum, the design doesn't really fit the existing body shape, as Lucas Auer drove the successor model in the original. Nevertheless, the adaptation to the now quite dated 2013 design is very well done, and the black rims contribute to the appearance.

However, I can't tell you anything new about the technology and handling: the front lights radiate slightly from the wheel arches, and the performance is flawless. The model sits firmly on the track and offers balanced handling, just like all other DTM cars.

CoMod Chris

AIR FORCE Homage

I quote from Lamborghini’s homepage:
With the Huracán Avio, you're not just a driver. You're a racer. So make sure you're buckled up! Now press the start button and experience what it's like to soar in seventh heaven, safely connected to the ground. The incredible power of the Huracán now presents itself in a completely new design, inspired by the glorious history of aviation technology. Aggressive yet elegant, the Huracán Avio pays homage to the courage of the Air Force and offers you entirely new emotions of freedom and adrenaline. Is everyone on board ready for takeoff?
The latest speedster from the Sant' Agata Bolognese racing car factory was unveiled in Geneva in March 2016. The car pays tribute to the aviation industry, from which Lamborghini has drawn much inspiration for its designs.
The vehicle will be produced in a limited series of 250 units, available in only five special colors: "Grigio Falco," "Blu Grifo," "Grigio Nibbio," "Grigio Vulcano," and "Verde Turbine," the names taken from the training emblems of the Italian Air Force Academy. The color variant released by CARRERA is called "Grigio Falco," with the racing stripes and other accents in "Arancio Borealis" (Lamborghini Orange). This version was unveiled in 2016 at the Lyon Air Museum in Costa Mesa, California (for more information, see their website: www.lyonairmuseum.org ). The L63 code on the doors stands for LAMBORGHINI and its founding year, 1963, when tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini, allegedly out of anger at Enzo Ferrari, decided to build his own sports cars.
The Carrera Lambo differs from the original in the California photos in its matte finish, but there are also photos online that show the car in a matte finish. The slot car's excellent performance is well known; I refer you to the previous reviews for details.

Report by: CoMod Chris

In his fourth DTM season, Marco Wittmann has already secured his second championship title. Since BMW's return to the DTM in 2012, he is the most successful driver of this era, and BMW the most successful brand. Since his first championship title, the livery of his racing car has changed to Red Bull. Mike's pictures speak for themselves; the model looks good from every perspective, and the detailed paintwork is particularly impressive. Very little of the driver figure in the cockpit is visible; it sits true to the original at the height of the B-pillar.

In terms of handling, the model doesn't differ significantly from the other DTM cars released so far. Due to its dimensions and weight, it sits securely on the track, exhibits good cornering behavior, and thus consistently achieves very good lap times.

One of this year's new additions to the 132cc sector is the famous blue and yellow Porsche 917K of the GESIPA Racing Team. For the history of the car and the team, I simply refer you to my report on the 124 vehicle from 2013 (I could simply rewrite the report, but that would be too easy…).

Comparing the larger model with the smaller one, the 124's superior level of detail is immediately apparent. However, since the original car, thankfully, doesn't stand out with its jagged bodywork, the "little brother" doesn't sit like a lump on the tracks. The vehicles of both scales impress with their high level of detail, which is repeatedly praised in model making and even car magazines (currently, for example, in OLDTIMER MARKT).
What distinguishes the big and the small, however, is their engine and driving characteristics.
The 124 – like any car from the larger scale – drives significantly more smoothly overall, but also much more demanding. A 124 requires different handling, more practice, and also more control of the vehicle. This is also one of the main reasons why this scale has retained such a loyal fan base over the decades. Size, length, wheelbase, engine, and weight do make a difference when they are "more voluminous."
The small 917s, on the other hand, are very lively vehicles. Personally, they're almost too lively for me; the cars literally go "like a rocket."
Due to space constraints, the familiar flat engine is installed, which naturally has a completely different response than the large block engine from the 124. Thanks to the powerful magnet and the much lower weight, the Porsche literally sticks to the track, making it almost impossible to throw off course. It's therefore easier to drive (and therefore much more track-friendly) than the much heavier "big" Porsche.

Conclusion: They are both a lot of fun, but despite their visual similarity, we have two completely different vehicles here.

Best regards
CoMod Lotus

I wonder what the '50' is all about?

Carrera has extensively sponsored the Porsche GT3 used by the Lechner Racing Team as a race taxi at the Salzburgring. The fact that this vehicle has now been released as a 1:24 scale model for the local racetrack will surely delight many fans.

The model will be released as a 'Special Edition' in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
