Carrera DIGITAL 132 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe 1957
Item No.: 20030795
An American legend…
The '57 Chevrolet Bel Air is one of the vehicles that has been part of the CARRERA lineup for 10 years. Ten years ago, CoMod colleague Jörg wrote the following about the first Bel Airs: "Whether these vehicles will appeal to a sufficient number of buyers in Europe, I can't say; in the USA, they will certainly have their fans and thus corresponding sales." This has proven to be true: Although the car has not been part of the German and European lineup for years, the Chevy continues to enjoy unbroken popularity in the USA. For years, CARRERA has regularly released another racing version of the 2-door sedan. The "civilian version" of the Bel Air was only available in 2008 (in red) and 2009 (in sky blue, only for the USA); all other versions were and are race cars. Original racing Chevys from that era now fetch quite respectable prices at auctions in the USA. The newest Chevy, with the item number 30795, is a racing version in turquoise and white with the starting number 90. According to information from our designer Günter "Slottus" Leifer, the car is based on a real-life prototype. Regarding handling: The car impresses with its sheer size; there are 1:24s that are only slightly larger. The car's dimensions are also reflected in its weight; the Bel Air weighs 119 grams. This is also noticeable when driving: The car sits firmly and surprisingly well on the track, and there is no tendency to roll over in corners due to the weight and higher center of gravity. Thus, the Chevy's size and weight bring it close to the handling of the 1:24 scale models. The car isn't a "burner" on the track, but it can easily keep up with the other (also quite large and heavy) American cars of the era. For those interested, the Chevy is readily available via eBay USA or direct import from local dealers. There's also been a German dealer for years who reimports the US versions and offers them here.
Best regards
