Carrera DIGITAL 132 VW Beetle Ladybug / Race 5
Item No.: 20030820, 20030821
I think it's well known that I'm a fan of the VW Beetle Group 5, and I still stand by that. These vehicles have a fun look and, thanks to their wide tires, wide track, and short wheelbase, they handle incredibly well on the track. However, I'm reaching the limits of my taste with this vehicle type with the current article number 30821: the Ladybug Racer.
A ladybug on wheels. What should I write about this car? Yes, I know, Slottus always wants to reach new target groups. So why not women, they are already severely underrepresented in our beloved hobby. But I'm probably too sober for attributes like "oh, it's so cute." The only positive thing I can say is the bodywork with the almost transparent rear section; I think that's a really great solution.
So I'll spare myself any further comments and simply state that this version of a racing ladybug could appeal to new target groups.
Thankfully, there's also the car with item number 30820 this year: a Beetle in a classic racing livery that's clearly reminiscent of the old Lotus cars from the 1970s. Black, gold letters and numbers. Since you unfortunately have to pay licensing fees for everything these days, and cigarette advertising on toys isn't allowed, Carrera opted for the letter combination BUG instead of the classic cigarette brand: BEETLE UNION GERMANY. And the car is truly a perfect match. The CARRERA lettering on the rear spoiler and the red front lap harmonize perfectly with the rest of the body, creating a perfectly harmonious overall image.
The Beetles' excellent driving characteristics are well known, so I don't think I need to say anything more about that.
One more thing: While I was writing this review, my two boys (6 and 8 years old) stormed into the room. When asked for their opinion on which of the two they liked better, the verdict was clear: the LADYBUGRACER!
I'm going to cry now...
Best regards
