'No. 77,' Horse Race, 1963
Review by CoMod JoergW of Carrera DIGITAL 124 the DIGITAL Ferrari GTO 'No. 77', 1963 Roßfeld Race ( Art.Nr . 23784)

Yes, it's true…

there's a red GTO again in 2013! Most Ferraris are red, after all
, and to be honest, that’s how I like them best. So now, in addition to the other colors, we have a choice—provided they’re already in stock or still available for purchase—between three red GTOs.

The new model is based on a car that raced in the 1963 Roßfeld Race. I had to
do a bit of Googling first, since I hadn’t heard of it until then. It was a hill climb similar to the Gaisberg Race, and the 1963 race served as the first round of the European Hill Climb Championship and even counted as a World Championship round for GT cars. Today, the route is a toll road offering panoramic views in the German Alps—perhaps I should consider including it in my vacation plans sometime.

I found a narrow-gauge film documentary of the race here:
Alpen Bergpreis at Roßfeld 1963 (Hillclimb)

. The new model can be seen briefly starting at about 7 minutes and 50 seconds. The film is
definitely worth watching forfans of historic races. Plenty of information about the race, with
the classic charm of 1960s amateur films.

But now to Carrerathe model:
Its handling is well-known… but here’s a quick summary: a reliable drifter with a high fun factor—not a record-breaker, though; that’s more the domain of the wider, flatter race cars. The tires and suspension suit the car well, and the axles are neatly centered. As with virtually any car, the edges of the tires could be sanded down a bit.

The paint job is top-notch, and the decals and trim parts are flawless. The front tires keep spinning for a long time (though a drop of oil might reduce the friction noise a little).

All in all, a great model for fans of classic GT cars.
