Review by CoMod Alex of Carrera DIGITAL 132 the Ferrari 458 GT2 “Krohn Racing, No. 57” (Item No. 30678)
As a self-confessed non-Ferrari fan, I’m actually happy to finally get to write a club review about a Ferrari. Why don’t I like Ferrari? I’ll say just one word: RED!!!
Those Italian supercars are always red. Always red. Always the same shade.
Sometimes with racing stripes, sometimes without. But always red. Well, sometimes they’re yellow too. But usually red. Why is that, anyway? Because that was/is the Italian national color in motorsports? I find that incredibly boring. Imagine if every Porsche were silver. A terrible thought.
That’s why I’m all the more excited about the currentCarrera model of the 458 GT2, item no. 30678. Green! And a green that really shows off the Ferrari’s proportions to their best advantage. And the 458 is a beautiful car, unlike some of the other models from the prestigious manufacturer in Maranello, which come across as a bit “ostentatious.”
The green race car drives like it’s on rails on my home track. Thanks to its wide track, it takes corners cleanly, but it’s very unforgiving of tight corners taken too sharply due to its very narrow limit. So don’t get overconfident—the car tempts you to. There’s nothing to complain about when it comes to acceleration, and there’s plenty of tire grip. Anyone who wants to drive without magnets and lead-weight the chassis will find plenty of room for their ambitions.
A few more words about KRON RACING, since the team is probably unfamiliar to most of us: The team has been around since 2006, and the guys from Braselton, Georgia, have been using the Ferrari 458 since 2012. Before that, they raced a Ferrari F430 and a Lola prototype. The racing team was founded by Tracy Krohn (who Wiki.Eintrag isWiki.Eintragalready described as a car nut). At the age of 29, with $12,000 in his pocket& , he founded the company W & T Offshore. The company drills for oil, extracts it, and trades in it. According to the Forbes list, Tracy Krohn is currently ranked 278th among the richest Americans, so it seems the company is turning a profit, allowing him to afford his racing team.
