Carrera DIGITAL 132 VW Beetle Group 5

it's crawling again ...
Carrera DIGITAL 132 VW Beetle Ladybug/Race 5

Item No.: 20030820, 20030821

I think it’s no secret that I’m a fan of the VW Beetle Group 5, and I stand by that. The cars have a fun look and handle incredibly well on the track thanks to their wide tires, wide track, and short wheelbase. However, the current item number 30821 for this model type pushes me to the limits of my taste: the Ladybug Racer.
A ladybug on wheels. What am I supposed to write about this car now? Yes, I know, Slottus is always looking to tap into new target groups. So why not women, who are severely underrepresented in our beloved hobby anyway? But I’m probably just too down-to-earth for comments like “oh, isn’t it cute.” The only aspect I really appreciate is the body design with its nearly transparent rear section—I think that’s a brilliant solution.
So I’ll spare you further comments and simply note that this version of a racing Beetle could appeal to new target audiences.
GoThankfully, there’s also the car with item number 30820 this year: a Beetle in a classic racing livery that’s clearly inspired by the old Lotus cars from the 1970s. Black, with gold letters and numbers. Since, unfortunately, you have to pay licensing fees for everything and everyone these days, and since cigarette advertising on toys isn’t allowed, they’ve Carrera opted for the letter combination BUG instead of the classic cigarette brand: BEETLE UNION GERMANY. And the car is truly well done. The CARRERA lettering on the rear spoiler and the red front lip go perfectly with the rest of the body; the car presents a completely harmonious overall look.
The Beetles’ excellent driving characteristics are well known; I don’t think I need to say anything more about that.
One more thing: While I was writing this review, my two boys (ages 6 and 8) burst into the room. When I asked them which of the two they liked better, their verdict was clear: The LADYBUGRACER!
I’m going to go cry now…
