The Car:
The demand for 1:24 scale DTM cars has existed almost as long as the demand for the BMW M1 and other classics. This year, that wish was granted, and for the first time since 2014, the new model arrived just in time before the turn of the year. In addition to the models based on the cars driven by Gary Paffett (#2) and Paul di Resta (#3), there is also a model that replicates Maximilian Götz’s (#84) car from the 2016 season.

The Model (Chassis):
Basically, there’s nothing new here; the chassis is constructed in the same way as all other large-scale vehicles from recent years. The front spoiler and rear diffuser are integrated into the chassis, but the side skirts are not (as seen on 1:32-scale DTM cars).

The Model (Body):
Neither the proportions nor the details leave anything to be desired, and certainly not the decals. The driver’s helmet and upper body are also finely detailed; otherwise, the driver’s seat is mostly a black plate with a silver roll bar—perhaps a few more details could have been added there. But that’s criticism at a very high level overall.

Driving test:
The driving test was conducted entirely without magnets. Despite its heavy weight, the model handles quite nimbly and lightly—a far cry from the cumbersome Ford GT race car. However, due to its enormous width, it does get quite cramped on the Carreratrack, which is based on a 40-year-old Carrera design.
The tires provide enough grip as long as they’re clean, though they tend to pick up dust and other debris quickly. Nevertheless, the car is a lot of fun and handles well on the track.
