mmModel description:
As can be seen from the part numbers, the decision to release the large-scale Audi RS5 DTM was likely made at the same time as the Mercedes C63 DTM, which was released in 2017. However, the design selection avoided any experimental approaches. On the one hand, the choice fell on Rene Rast’s championship-winning car; on the other, on the classic “Red Bull” design driven by Mattias Ekström. And rather than saying much, just let Mike’s photos speak for themselves.
From a technical standpoint, there’s relatively little to report; the suspension looks almost identical to that of the Mercedes C63 DTM. Compared to that car, the Audi weighs 3 grams more and is also a tiny bit longer. In practice, however, neither of these factors really matters.
Test drive:
As usual, I remove all the magnets; after a bit of a break-in period, the stock tires provide sufficient grip even for this operating mode. The handling is practically identical to that of the Mercedes C63 DTM—it’s all about the length. Hectic load-change reactions or sudden spins are completely foreign to this model, and the average lap times also match what the Mercedes achieves on the track. All in all, these are ideal conditions for a balanced competition.
