After two rather unspectacular design variants of the Audi RS5 DTM were released on a large scale last year, things are set to be much more colorful this year.

First up is once again Rene Rast’s race car, whose design has changed from black to red. After winning the DTM title in 2017, he was able to keep the championship race open until the very last race in 2018 with this car and finished second in the overall standings.

We also have the car of Swiss driver Nico Müller in the green “Castrol” design; he has been active in the DTM for several years now. He has consistently achieved very good individual results, but has not played a significant role in the overall standings of past championships. This year, however, he currently sits in second place overall (following the race weekend in Assen), behind the aforementioned Rene Rast.
Together with the new designs for the Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, which were also released recently, there are now 10 different DTM cars available on a large scale—all within less than two years.

In magnetless mode, the Audis on my test track are always a tad smoother than the Mercedes, even though their weight and dimensions hardly differ. This can be used to somewhat compensate for driving advantages or disadvantages, so that balanced races are ultimately possible.
