By now, the interested reader is likely aware that the Ford Mustang GTY in this body style is a product of the imagination. The Mustang has been available for a few years now; as a racing version with oversized spoilers, it sprang from our designer’s imagination in 2020—he spends an insane amount of time browsing every possible and impossible motorsports website on the internet. But experience over the past decades has shown that race cars simply sell better than production vehicles. Even though the Mustang is an all-time classic in the American manufacturer’s lineup.
Problem: of course, there are no real-life models to base it on. So the only option is paint schemes inspired by current racing teams or historic vehicles.
And what could be more fitting than a (European) Ford racing classic from the 1970s? Back then, the Ford Capri Zakspeed was a legend in black with yellow and red stripes. Of course, we won’t name the sponsor due to the well-known licensing issues.
That’s exactly why the current FORD GTY is called Krampus! It’s a typical Austrian word for St. Nicholas’s helper. In Bavaria, he’s called Knecht Rupprecht, but the Krampus is a darker, more ominous figure. The Krampus frightens all children who haven’t been good. Krampuses roam from Christmas through New Year’s to drive out evil spirits.
And that actually brings us right back to the Ford Mustang’s menacing outfit: designed to frighten and intimidate others. The phrase “Kraxn für‘d Fratzn“ on the roof is more of a little joke on the side: in Austrian German, “Kraxn” refers to a baby carrier or backpack, and “Fratzn/Fratze” should be self-explanatory.
Have fun with the Ford!
Best regards
