Since 2012 Carrera , the Porsche 917K has been part Carrera of the lineup. Among the various 917 versions of the legendary race car from Weissach, there is one that stands out visually from the rest: the 917/20. It holds a very special place, as the car was a one-off. With this car, Porsche had attempted to combine the advantages of the short and long-tail versions. But the coolest thing about the car was its paint job: known as the “Pink Pig,” “Fat Berta,” or even “Truffle Hunter.” The paint job was created by designer Anatol Lapine and caused a sensation at Le Mans in 1971. Although he dropped out of the main race in sixth place due to an accident, he won the preliminary race despite having no prior experience.
Due to its unique body shape, this car will likely never be produced by Carrera in 1/132 or 1/124 scale as a 917. But there are others as well:
Since then, this design has enjoyed absolute cult status. As early as 2018, the owner of a Porsche 918 Spyder had his car wrapped in the Metzger design.
And even at Porsche, the initial issues they had with Lapine’s design proposal in 1971 had apparently been definitively resolved after 40 years.
In 2018, one of the 10 Porsche 911 RSRs that the factory entered in the 24 Hours of Le Mans featured the pink paint scheme on its body. The car, bearing the number 92, was driven by Kévin Estre (France), Michael Christensen (Denmark), and Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium); it competed in the LMGT Pro class and finished 15th overall.
