The Felder Racing Team!

The Felder Racing Team, one of the many racing teams that very few of us have actually heard of—except for die-hard racing fans.

That is, until CoMod Carrera released the Felder Team’s No. 3 car from the 1974 Interserie as the latest design variant of the speedy McLaren M20.

The McLaren is, of course, an old acquaintance as a model: released in 2010 in two variants with the 917/30 as the rival car (I’ll come back to that later!), it has since proven itself on the racetrack. Personally, it’s one of my favorite cars, since I was and still am a huge fan of this racing series. It’s not exactly easy to drive without a magnet—you really need to grind the tires completely flat, otherwise there’s not enough grip—but with a magnet, it drives without any problems. However, it tends to break loose in corners taken too fast, as the body design places a great deal of weight on the rear axle.

Visually, the car is a faithful reproduction of the prototype. If you want to compare it to the original vehicle, the best pictures can be found on the following page: www.loosfahren.de

Relatively little is known about the team, but the driver of the M20 during its racing days is all the more famous: Helmut Kelleners, nicknamed “Nas aus Moers” (so called because of his large nose). The successful race car driver racked up 150 victories between 1961 and 1984, driving primarily BMWs but also competing in the top sports car class. You can find an interesting overview of his victories with the M20 here: www.racingsportscars.com

So the orange-and-blue car not only looked good, but was also very successful.

By the way, the Felder Racing Team also fielded a 917/30—check out the pictures on the website mentioned above. That would be an interesting color scheme too, don't you think, Slottus?
