BMW M1 Procar: A cult sports car of the superlatives
The BMW M1 was built between 1978 and 1981 and set standards in terms of design and performance. Up until 1983, this sports car was the fastest of all German production sports cars, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 6 seconds and reaching a top speed of just over 160 mph. The car was the first of its kind in Germany. The BMW M1 has been used in various racing series as the BMW M1 Procar. This version was 280 kg lighter than the standard model and thus achieved better driving performance. The Procar version accelerated from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds, while speeds of up to 190 mph were possible. As part of the BMW M1 Championship, the sports car was involved in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1981. It was driven by Rudy Bartling, Mike Freberg and David Deacon from Canada. Unfortunately, the team had to leave the race early after just 118 laps
