The Porsche 917K is regarded as the most successful racing car of the seventies. It gained its reputation through many victories in Europe and North America. The 917K became famous thanks to the movie “Le Mans” starring Hollywood legend Steve McQueen. The Porsche 917K also racked up a prestigious success at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in real racing sport. Porsche was successful not only in Europe and North America, but also in Africa. It also proved its reputation as the fastest racing car of the 70s at the 9-hour race in Kyalami, South Africa. The short-tail version of the 917 (designated by the letter "K") was able to leave all its opponents for dust with the two drivers Jo Siffert and Kurt Ahrens
